Hurricane Lowell has left devastating impacts on the island of Kaua’i.
On September 8th 2026 Hurricane Lowell made a direct hit to the island of Kaua’i leaving catastrophic impacts to our community. Hanalei Town was without power for 10 days, and many parts of the North Shore continue to be without electricity and consistent clean water. There are families who have suffered immeasurable damage or lost everything. Farmers have lost crops, infrastructure, and their livelihoods.
Small businesses are struggling and shuttering.
3 days after the Hurricane we began offering free classes to our community at Black Coral while continuing to pay our teachers for their services despite having no electricity. Our community is strong and resilient and has been in action and moving fast—neighbors checking on neighbors, volunteers organizing and clearing debris, people sharing supplies, housing, equipment, and labor.
There is still so much Aloha amidst so much loss.
